Moments to Remember

Things that happen that are not planned... but are extra ordinary in their occurence that I have to write about them.

Typhoon Glenda

7/27/2014

Post by Aimee Grace B Tapeceria.
Glenda’ causes P200M worth of damage in Cavite

Typhoon Glenda left behind more than P200 million worth of damage to property, infrastructure and agriculture in the province of Cavite, Gov. Jonvic Remulla said Thursday.

Medical establishments, meanwhile, have limited operations, the report said.

Water supply to a large part of the province has also been cut off.

More than 400 hectares of banana plantations in various towns were also destroyed, the report said.

“Naubos ang aming mga tanim. Taon na ulit bago pakikinabangan 'yan,” said banana farmer Robert Collantes.

On Wednesday, Remulla declared the province under a state of calamity to speed up the release of funds and for the implementation of a price freeze on basic commodities.

Glenda battered the province for several hours Wednesday morning. The eye of the typhoon directly passed over the province, specifically over Noveleta town.

“Ang estimate namin mga apat na libong bahay ang natanggalan ng bubong. Konti lang ang water damage dito pero puro wind damage. Mas maganda ang organization namin ngayon, dahil sa experience namin sa Habagat, natuto kami,” Remulla said.

Classes in all levels, both in public and private schools will remain suspended on Friday, Remulla said. -- Elizabeth Marcelo/JDS, GMA News

My 1st time hanging out on Rappler (went quite well, I think)

Rappler, a social news network where stories inspire community engagement and digitally fuelled actions for social change. Rappler comes from the root words "rap" (to discuss) + "ripple" (to make waves).
NOTE: Just finished the Google Hangout with Michael Josh, Lala, Gigi, and Ruben who are all Rappler staff ... giving our reactions on the State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Benigno Aquino III (PNoy.

Its nice to know that I share the same sentiments as other journalists who follow the Pnoy's moves... giving credibility to my point of view when it comes to how the Philippines is being governed... :D

Thank you Rappler for the opportunity to share my views! I hope I get invited again on some other topic.

Story behind this fansign...

It was the day after the Alaska Aces won title for the PBA's Commissioner's Cup. I suddenly got a message from Jhet de Jesus, one of the super-fans of the team (and one of the friends I gained from this whole PBA experience).  He told me that he was with Jvee, and if I wanted to give him any message.... Jvee was part of the Powerade Tigers' Big 3, with Gary David and Marcio Lassiter, who went on that magical run from #8 to the Finals... he was also the main reason why I decided to watch the PBA again. I took a deep breath and wrote this...

"nkakaiyak ung paghawak mo ng championship trophy... makes me think of the Powerade Cinderella run... and though I wish you could have earned his first trophy with Gary and Marcio at your side, I'm so glad that at least, you were able to get it while playing a major role in an independent team...

lahat ng mga fans sa globalport/powerade are so proud of you and we all were all cheering for you."

Jhet handed the phone over to Jvee... soon after that I got a friend request from Jvee on Facebook... and Jvee gave me his personal thanks. Later on, Jhet sent this photo to me.. imagine my delight in getting this. :D

Thank you Jvee! I'll always be a fan.

The Camera may be nice... but the scenery is better

Pat Evangelista - The storyteller

4/6/2013

Last February 28, 2013, I had the priviledge to attend #MoveCavite, a program that was held in the Finster Chapel, at the AUP Campus. I was priviledged to listen to Maria Ressa and her team at Rappler talk about how social media gives us the power to actually have a say in the coming elections.

But when Pat Evangelista gave her talk I felt the need to record it and As she drew pictures of things that she had seen and heard a couple of days after that fateful day of November 23, 2009... it will be something I'll never forget... and I hope that you don't forget too....

The Sabbath is the day where I just feel thankful for the life that the Lord has given me. Especially when I come to AIIAS as a church member and not as an employee, my whole persona changes. coz this campus has transformed from being the stressful "work" area back into the "chill out" place i've known since childhood.

Thank you Lord for being so good to me. For giving me the priviledge to stay at "home" despite the fact that I was preparing myself to leave.

Thank you that despite my staying here, I have friends all over the world who I can talk to anytime. And at the same time, I can make new friends and acquaintances thru the same medium.

Thank you... for never leaving me. Despite my not being sure of where to go, I never had a reason to worry because You've proven time and time again that You are in control and that the life You have in store for me is an exciting adventure.

Thank You Lord. Thank You.

NUVALI || Feeding the fish

4/3/2013

Picture
Each bag of fish food cost P15 and was sold at a stall close to the water.
After the graduation of my cousin in AUP, the celebration was supposed to be in Paseo. I made a detour.

I may be a graduate of AUP back in 2007, but I have never explored Nuvali. So I decided to stopped by and check out what was so interesting about the place.

There were alot of tourists there... and just like them, I was drawn to the man made lake which was used for boating and other recreational activities. As I got to the edge of the lake, I was delighted to see some extremely well-fed fish that were swimming over each other to get the pellets of food that was being dropped by kids and adults alike. And so i grabbed my cam, and started capturing the action.

Before posting the video, i thought it felt pretty bare, so I decided to put a small audio snippet from "Finding Nemo", specifically on when Bruce the shark said "Fish are Friends, not Food" coz I believe that's true in this case. :D
